As a designer, my position stands from creating designs that underlie meaning that empower and challenge’s society’s social norms. I’m currently studying to transfer into fashion design. My aim is to utilise my ideas and knowledge to create change. I’m inspired to work in an environment which allows for my creative mind to flourish. Along with new and forever challenging methods and approaches. I wish to create designs which represent my inner self and ideologies that inspire others to create changes in the world and within themselves.
My project is an upcycling project which subtly challenges the fashion industry through positive expression. Using the approach of upcycling I was able to develop a two-piece garment which shows upcycling through two different methods. The ability to add decoration to a pre-owned garment and make it trendy for its time as well as being able to completely disassemble another garment and repurpose it by creating a new item of clothing. Creating this work I was able to explore my creative self by experimenting with iterations and try to develop personal innovation. Using decorative methods like bleach dyeing and appliqueing I was able to produce a two-piece garment that considers the world and environment along with aesthetic features which work closely in line with current fashion trends of today.
